Woodcrest was started in 1988 with the first 3 residents moving in November 1989. The Community based retirement community started by the Porter Family Foundation has a present population of over 240 residents and 150 employees.

Woodcrest Retirement Community, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, has 4 areas of residents consisting of independent living duplex villas and Garden Apartments, assisted living and the Woodcrest Evergreen Court Apartments, and the Woodcrest nursing Center where full care is available as the need arises.

Woodcrest is an important part of the total Decatur community and surrounding area as it severs the needs of the elder population of the area and beyond from independent living to the services of the nursing center.

Woodcrest is a member of the Adams Health Network, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana and American Association of Housing and Services to the Aging.
