The Galley of Decatur is preparing to enter its 30th year of business. It opened in February of 1978 in the Decatur Plaza and then relocated to its current location in June 1987.
Over the past thirty years, The Galley has continued to specialize in seafood and steaks. To date, close to 3 million pounds of their Famous Fish has been sold. Both a carry-out menu featuring fish by the pound and a banquet menu with private seating up to 100 people are offered to customers. Employees believe that a good work ethic and respect are what it takes to earn success and strive to treat each day as if it were opening day.
The Galley is very involved in the community through its support of The Boys and Girls Club, United Way, Chamber events, Youth for Christ, and girl’s softball. The restaurant also offers support to Bellmont High School sports, DECA, and other programs. Thousands of dollars in gift certificates have been donated to church raffles, charities, and other community projects. It also strongly supports high school students with letters for possible scholarships.
Achievements include:
In 2006, The Galley received the Small Business of the Year Award from the Decatur Chamber of Commerce.
