History of Collier Insurance/Navigator Financial

Doyle Collier established Collier Insurance as an independent insurance agency in 1964.  After graduating with a business degree from Indiana University and teaching at Bellmont High School in Decatur for a year, David Collier joined his father Doyle in 1971. At David’s passing in July of 2016, he had been the face of Collier Insurance for 45 years.  Under David’s leadership, the Collier Insurance Agency enjoyed many years of success as a top producing agency among many independent life agencies.

David’s son Cameron returned to Decatur in early 2010 after having lived away in service to the US Navy for nearly 13 years. Working out of the Collier Insurance building in downtown Decatur, Cameron entered into the financial service industry as well; however, his emphasis differed from that of his father and his father’s father before him. In addition to serving life insurance clients alongside his father and family business, Cameron focused his efforts on full-service financial planning and investment management. 

With the passing of his father in 2016, Cameron took on the full responsibility of leading the family insurance agency as General Agent in addition to developing his growing planning and investment management practice.  Over the next few years, Cameron worked to fully integrate and transition the focus of the family business. Rebranding in 2020, Navigator Financial focuses on full-service values-based financial planning and asset management. While the location in downtown Decatur remains the “home of Collier Insurance” the new brand is much more representative of the business’ capabilities and comprehensive focus.

Newly rebranded and independent as Navigator Financial, Cameron entered into conversations with a financial advising firm in nearby Bluffton, Indiana. Garton Pate Financial Advisors, similar in scope and size, had been looking for several years for the next generation of financial advisor with whom they could entrust their clients. Effective January 2021, Garton Pate came under the banner of Navigator Financial. The consolidated firm now serves clients in 22 states with offices in Decatur, Bluffton, and Ft. Wayne, IN.
